‘Going Without Looking’ is a selection of mixed media paintings on canvas and paper from 2022 that captures the joy and freedom of trusting the process.

The intention to be as unintentional as possible. We can take action towards a certain goal, but in reality we do not know if that will result in reaching the goal.
"Control is an illusion"

By removing attachment to the outcome of a painting, I find more space to explore, experience and reflect. This for me is pure freedom, painting and witnessing what emerges. Colours and marks are applied to the surface without design or intention but by sensing. Layers collaborate to create their composition on their own, I become a tool for the picture to realise itself.

Christopher Stern
Christopher Stern is a self-taught, professional artist whose work has primarily not been about ideas, but rather, a practice as a means of measuring time, as a means of knowing the world more clearly, without trying to explain it, just letting it arrive and seeing what it is.

The sculptures in this exhibition are a series of related but unique steel and ferrocrete objects, some housing living plants, some entirely non-functional, representational on an abstract level.

Shadowing human imperfections and instability, they are cobbled together from the bits and pieces conditions provide. Subject to their environment, the materials from which they are constructed are both resistingly pliant and also rigid, relatively permanent, ultimately impermanent. Cobbled together, evolving through form, round and round.

” I’m pleased to present this new work with paintings by Natalie as I see a point of convergence with regards to how we made this work – without foresight, just going, moving on, one thing leading to another, no clear end in sight, until finally, it has arrived.”
We are happy to collaborate with Ozark by Food4Thought restaurant to bring you the first exhibition in their beautiful garden.
